The Art of Homemaking

I found this little treasure of a book at DI the other day. It's called "The Art of Homemaking," published 1967. I love finding old books to decorate in little stacks under lamps, on bedside tables, etc.

It turns out the book is not merely decorative, but also useful for little pearls of wisdom in the art of homemaking that I am sure will make Mike so appreciate! For example:

"One of the most common complaints unhappy husbands have is that their wives have neglected their appearance and slop around the house with uncombed hair and in runover slippers which look like two dead rabbits. Mrs. Homemaker, you owe it to your husband and children to get dressed promptly each morning... And, remember, as far as make-up is concerned, ' Even a barn looks better if it's painted!' "

"A wife, if she is reasonable, doesn't expect a great deal of help from her husband, but she does want good help. A husband can help by following through on a task he performs. For instance, when he does the dishes how wonderful it would be if he would complete the job by cleaning the pots and pans, rinsing the sink and removing food particles caught in the drain, and washing the countertops." (Funny because that drove me crazy the first year of marriage! Mike, bless his heart would do the dishes and be so pround, but the counters and sink would be disguisting. He's got it down now!)

Chelsea,
You are way too cute!!!! I'm so proud of your DI abilities. The file cabinet looks great. It is the best thing you could ever learn. Thank you for taking such good care of my little boy.
